CANSECO OVERTAKES RODRIQUEZ!!!!

It has been a long hard fight for both candidates Canseco and Rodriquez. This election has come to be known as one of the tightest races in the country but it has finally all come to an end with Canseco easily defeating his opponent Rodriquez. Canseco placed a solid lead over Rodriquez beginning in Bexar county and after that, Rodriquez simply wasn't able to shake that lead off. Canseco has said since day one that the 23rd district race was about "taking the gavel out of Nancy Pelosi's hand". And it seems like that dream has actually become a reality. I must say that i'm not surprised that Canseco won, because from the way the early campaigning was going I did feel like it was going to go in his favor. However i'm a little surprised that it wasn't a closer race. It will be interesting to see how where the republicans take the country from this point on.

  1. Canseco's "easy" win (5-point) over Rodriquez is interesting seeing as the pundits predicted it would be much closer. What do you think motivate more Republican voters to turnout, or discouraged some Democrats from going to the polls? Maybe the Democrats over speculated the GOP predicted takeover of seats and did not think it was practical to turnout. Whatever the reason, I agree that Canseco and the rest of the newly elected Republican congressmen have a lot to prove if they want to makeover Washington as they promised along the campaign trail.

  2. The sad truth is that most people with political efficacy and believe that their votes matter and actually do cast votes are Republicans. The GOP didn't need to do much in order to make such a huge comeback, history's trends show that political shifts happen and the circumstances of this mid-term election were perfectly conditioned for such a shift. As for Republicans in Washington making changes, I wouldn't hold your breath. The Republicans need only to satisfy their major campaign promise; stop the massive policy agenda of Obama and the Democrats. Compromise on the part of Republican Representatives is wishful thinking. Plus, with the Democrats still in control of the Senate, Congress is split once again and the of passing even on major bill would be a surprise to me.

  3. This win can definitely be attributed to the lack of Democratic turn out at the polls. All of the excitement and energy that was present in the 2008 Presidential election race was absent this year. It's a shame that more supporters didn't come out for Rodriguez even though she had a solid base.
